Bible Study: The Book of the Revelation – LESSON 9

Calvary Bible Church Bible Study

The Book of the Revelation

LESSON 9:

A  “PARENTHESIS”. 10:1–11:14.

Just as there was a “parenthesis” in chapter 7 between the sixth and seventh seals, so there is now one that consists of 10:1–11:14 (between the sixth and seventh trumpets). There is a very brief parenthesis (16:15) between the sixth and seventh vial judgments. This shows the purposefully ordered arrangement of the Revelation. Continue Reading Here

Bible Study: The Book of the Revelation – LESSON 8

Calvary Bible Church Bible Study

The Book of the Revelation

LESSON 8:

We now begin the series of three “woe” judgements spoken of at the end of the previous chapter.  These “woes” are far worse than anything that has been seen on earth before.

Fifth Trumpet Sounds. 9:1–12.

vrs     1                  The first of the woe judgments is directed against the ungodly (see verse 4).  The star falls from heaven, the seat of authority.   Some suggest it is the Antichrist himself, but to become that specific here without further specific information is unsupportable. Why is this not a literal star?  It refers to a living person, for the work performed is that of a human or living being.  On the basis of 12:12, A. C. Gaebelein (The Revelation, p. 63; so also Seiss, op. cit., pp. 202–203) maintains it was Satan himself. If it is a false teacher, then Satan works through him, as is clear from numerous other occasions in the history of mankind. The key of the bottomless pit (abyss, in the Greek) was entrusted to him. Bible Study: The Book of the Revelation – LESSON 7

Calvary Bible Church Bible Study

The Book of the Revelation

LESSON 7:

Following the “commercial” (Parenthetical Passage) of chapter 7, we now return to the normal flow of the action, and pick up with the seventh seal judgment.

The Seventh Seal. 8:1–2.

vrs     1–2              At the opening of the seventh seal, an ominous silence pervades all nature, which is indicative of the solemnity of the things that are about to take place. It is the calm before the storm. The space of half an hour is not a reckoning according to a heavenly chronometer, but it does indicate a very brief period.  To give you an indication of the awesomeness of this moment, realize that there has NEVER been total silence in Heaven since the angels were created to praise God!  For the thousands and millions of angels to be TOTALLY SILENT for even a short time indicates that what they see when the seventh seal is opened is absolutely overwhelming.  The phrase, “the seven angels which stand before God”, refers to what is known in Jewish literature as “the angels of the presence”, the angels mentioned Biblically in Luke 1:19, and Ezekiel 9:2.  These  seven angels are entrusted with the service of blowing the seven trumpets (SHOFARS: Ram’s horn trumpets) of judgment (Zecheriah 9:14-16).  The blowing of the seven SHOFARS is what makes up the fulfillment of the seventh seal. Bible Study: The Holy Spirit – Lesson 6: Spiritual Gifts Part 2 – The Functioning of the Gifts

Calvary Bible Church Bible Study

The Person and Ministry of The Holy Spirit

Lesson 6:  Spiritual Gifts  Part 2 – The Functioning of the Gifts

The Holy Spirit is seemingly the least understood of the members of the Trinity.  Although many churches in the modern era TALK about the Spirit, the vast majority of them focus on the “power” and the “gifts”, rather than the Person and Ministry of the Spirit.  And even then, they produce a lot of unbiblical information on the “power” and “gifts” that leads to a very unbalanced understanding of what Christianity is really all about.

Hopefully, this study will help us gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 12:6-8

6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8 he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

The Person and Ministry of The Holy Spirit

Lesson 5:  Spiritual Gifts  Part 1 – The Purpose of the Gifts

The Holy Spirit is seemingly the least understood of the members of the Trinity.  Although many churches in the modern era TALK about the Spirit, the vast majority of them focus on the “power” and the “gifts”, rather than the Person and Ministry of the Spirit.  And even then, they produce a lot of unbiblical information on the “power” and “gifts” that leads to a very unbalanced understanding of what Christianity is really all about.

Hopefully, this study will help us gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the Holy Spirit.

The New Testament is very clear as to the purpose of spiritual gifts.  They are given at the discretion of the Holy Spirit, to accomplish certain very specific goals or tasks within the Church as a whole.  You could consider them as a “toolbox” of abilities that are distributed to the “workmen” in order to get the job done.  They are NOT for personal exaltation or pride.  In fact, Paul states that unless the gifts are rooted and grounded in the FRUIT of the Spirit, the gifts are useless (see 1 Corinthians 13:1-3).  Continue Reading Here

Bible Study: The Chaos Plan – Lesson #3

Lesson 3:  The End Of All Flesh

Matthew 24:15-22 tells us that during the “great tribulation” period, the “tribulation” (trouble, misery, problems, etc.) will be worse than anything that has ever been seen before in the history of the world.  Consider everything that we have seen, just in the last one hundred years (WW1, WW2, the Nazi and Japanese atrocities of WW2, “the killing fields”, Pol Pot, Stalin, mass murders and school shootings, widespread devaluation of human life (abortion) and human sexuality (pornography and the sexualization of culture) and so much more), and then consider that this new period will be massively WORSE!  Jesus states that if God (in His mercy, and for the sake of His Church) did not put a short time limit on this period, NO FLESH WOULD SURVIVE!  Notice it doesn’t say only that no PEOPLE would survive, but that no FLESH (living thing) would survive! Bible Study – The Chaos Plan – Lesson #1

The Rapidly Approaching Time of Spiritual, Social, Political, and Military Transformation Worldwide

Introduction:

It is with a very heavy heart that I prepare this in-depth study.  Although I have been aware of much of this information for a number of years, it is only in the last few months that the final pieces have come together, and that God has lain a burden upon me to assemble it together and present it to the Church.  I say that my heart is heavy because the conclusions of this study are uncomfortable to me; especially as I consider that my first grandchild has just been born.  Even though the END of the story is the tremendous glory and victory of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ to rule and reign (Praise God!), the years leading UP TO that end will be filled with trouble and turmoil to an extent never before seen on the face of the earth.  Fortunately, God promises that, for the sake of the elect, those days will be shortened.  My faith in Christ does not waver in the least; but I must admit that I am a frail enough human being so as to desire “that this cup pass” from my family, friends, and loved ones.  However, it seems that our current generation is the one that will see the fulfillment of these things, so we must be strong in Christ, and resolve ourselves to live for Him daily, no matter the circumstances around us. Leviticus Bible Study – Lesson #8

Lesson 8:  Leviticus 17-18

LAWS CONCERNING SACRIFICE (Leviticus 17)

This chapter had direct application to the wilderness march and the period that Israel was camped about the tabernacle. It has to do with ethical rather than ceremonial considerations. Clean domestic animals for food were to be slain at the tabernacle. Only verses Lev. 17:8-9 in this chapter have to do specifically with the ceremonial offering of a sacrifice to God.
