Bible Study: The Holy Spirit – Lesson 5: Spiritual Gifts Part 1 – The Purpose of the Gifts

Calvary Bible Church Bible Study

The Person and Ministry of The Holy Spirit

Lesson 5:  Spiritual Gifts  Part 1 – The Purpose of the Gifts

The Holy Spirit is seemingly the least understood of the members of the Trinity.  Although many churches in the modern era TALK about the Spirit, the vast majority of them focus on the “power” and the “gifts”, rather than the Person and Ministry of the Spirit.  And even then, they produce a lot of unbiblical information on the “power” and “gifts” that leads to a very unbalanced understanding of what Christianity is really all about.

Hopefully, this study will help us gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the Holy Spirit.

The New Testament is very clear as to the purpose of spiritual gifts.  They are given at the discretion of the Holy Spirit, to accomplish certain very specific goals or tasks within the Church as a whole.  You could consider them as a “toolbox” of abilities that are distributed to the “workmen” in order to get the job done.  They are NOT for personal exaltation or pride.  In fact, Paul states that unless the gifts are rooted and grounded in the FRUIT of the Spirit, the gifts are useless (see 1 Corinthians 13:1-3).  Continue Reading Here

Galatians 5:22-25

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.  Continue Reading Here

Bible Study: The Chaos Plan – Lesson #8 (last in series)

Lesson 8:  How Do We Deal With All This?

The information that we have been dealing with in this series of lessons can be terrifying, considering that it appears as if WE are the generation who will have to face the culmination of these things.  However, God’s Word has a lot to say to us about how to face these times with courage, righteousness, and strength.  We CAN continue to be a valid witness for Christ and His Gospel in the “end times”, but we have to make sure that we are following God’s Word and doing it His way. Lesson 7:  The Endgame

Revelation 19:17-19 (NKJV)
17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, “Come and gather together for the supper of the great God, 18 that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh ofcaptains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great.”

19 And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. Continue Reading Here

Lesson 6:  The Power of the Reich Rises Again

Revelation 13:11-17 (NKJV)
11 Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. 12 And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. 13 He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. 14 And he deceives those who dwell on the earth—by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived. 15 He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Lesson 5:  The New World Order

Revelation 13:4-8 (NKJV)
4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”

5 And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months. 6 Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. 7 It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. 8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Revelation 13:4-8 announces worldwide Satanism and occultism, and “emperor worship” (as in the Roman empire), and direct attacks upon Christians (again, as in the Roman empire).  Worldwide government. Continue Reading Here

Bible Study: The Chaos Plan – Lesson #4

Lesson 4:  The Satanic “Pentecost”

Revelation 12:7-12 tells us of a time when Satan and his demons are cast to the earth.  Remember from the Book of Job that, even after Satan’s rebellion against God, he still had access to the Throne Room as “the accuser”.  Now he is ONLY able to be on earth, with his demons.  He (Satan) is FURIOUS, and will take it out upon the inhabitants of the earth with his demonic henchmen.  Expect to see drastically increased demonic activity, and an increase in the ferocity of that activity against people.

I use the term “Satanic Pentecost” to describe this event because the New Testament Pentecost (Acts 2) was an event where people who had been “prepared” (were already in a relationship with Jesus, either as apostles or disciples) became imbued with “power” (greek, “dynamis”, same as root word for dynamo or dynamite) in a specific way to carry out their “mission” (to live in holiness and to evangelize the world). Bible Study: The Chaos Plan – Lesson #3

Lesson 3:  The End Of All Flesh

Matthew 24:15-22 tells us that during the “great tribulation” period, the “tribulation” (trouble, misery, problems, etc.) will be worse than anything that has ever been seen before in the history of the world.  Consider everything that we have seen, just in the last one hundred years (WW1, WW2, the Nazi and Japanese atrocities of WW2, “the killing fields”, Pol Pot, Stalin, mass murders and school shootings, widespread devaluation of human life (abortion) and human sexuality (pornography and the sexualization of culture) and so much more), and then consider that this new period will be massively WORSE!  Jesus states that if God (in His mercy, and for the sake of His Church) did not put a short time limit on this period, NO FLESH WOULD SURVIVE!  Notice it doesn’t say only that no PEOPLE would survive, but that no FLESH (living thing) would survive! Bible Study: The Chaos Plan – Lesson #2

Lesson 2: Ordo ab Chaos to produce a Novus Ordo Seclorum

The Latin phrase “Ordo ab Chaos” is translated as “Order out of Chaos”, and is the “motto” of what is referred to as “The New World Order”.  This is the major clue as to what is coming in the world, and is why I have chosen to title this study “The Chaos Plan”.  The second Latin phrase is “Novus Ordo Seclorum”, which is found printed on every one dollar bill in the US, and is translated as “New Order of the World” (New World Order), but is more accurately translated as “New SECULAR (without God) Order”!  Thus we find information about the fulfillment of Psalm 2:1-3 hidden in plain sight. Bible Study – The Chaos Plan – Lesson #1

The Rapidly Approaching Time of Spiritual, Social, Political, and Military Transformation Worldwide

Introduction:

It is with a very heavy heart that I prepare this in-depth study.  Although I have been aware of much of this information for a number of years, it is only in the last few months that the final pieces have come together, and that God has lain a burden upon me to assemble it together and present it to the Church.  I say that my heart is heavy because the conclusions of this study are uncomfortable to me; especially as I consider that my first grandchild has just been born.  Even though the END of the story is the tremendous glory and victory of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ to rule and reign (Praise God!), the years leading UP TO that end will be filled with trouble and turmoil to an extent never before seen on the face of the earth.  Fortunately, God promises that, for the sake of the elect, those days will be shortened.  My faith in Christ does not waver in the least; but I must admit that I am a frail enough human being so as to desire “that this cup pass” from my family, friends, and loved ones.  However, it seems that our current generation is the one that will see the fulfillment of these things, so we must be strong in Christ, and resolve ourselves to live for Him daily, no matter the circumstances around us. Leviticus Bible Study – Lesson #14 (Last in series)

Lesson 14:  Leviticus 26-27

BLESSINGS AND CURSINGS (Leviticus 26)

The Blessings for Obedience to God (Lev. 26:1-13)

Twice as much space is devoted to warning as to blessing in this chapter. Adversity, the promised fruit of disobedience, is a tool which God uses, not to inflict revenge but to lead His people to repentance (vv. 40–42). National chastisement would be increasingly severe until the people confessed their iniquity. Notice the progression in verses 14, 18, 21, 24, and 28.

After warnings against idolatry (v. 1), sabbath-breaking, and irreverence (v. 2), the Lord promised the following blessings to the nation if it would keep His commandments: rain, fertility (v. 4), productivity, security (v. 5), peace, safety (v. 6), victory over enemies (vv. 7, 8), fruitfulness, and the presence of the Lord (vv. 9–13). Leviticus Bible Study – Lesson #13

Lesson 13:  Leviticus 25

THE SABBATICAL YEAR AND THE YEAR OF JUBILEE

The legislation in chapters 25–27 was given to Moses on Mount Sinai and not from within the tabernacle (Lev. 25:1; Lev. 26:46; Lev. 27:34).

Lev. 25:1-7 Every seventh year was to be observed as a sabbath. The land was to lie fallow (uncultivated). Food for the people would be provided from the crop that grew of its own accord. The owner was not to harvest it, but leave it for free use by the people.  This shows how the physical needs of the people were supplied during the Sabbatical year. The land was so productive that it was not necessary to plant each year. The ground in Israel produced enough to supply the needs of the owner, his servants, and the stranger. Even the cattle could survive and probably grew fat by grazing on the untilled land. God took care of both man and beast, Israelite and stranger, rich and poor during the year of rest. They were all given enough to eat. However, they could not harvest anything to market it. Continue Reading Here

Leviticus Bible Study – Lesson #12

Lesson 12:  Leviticus 24

CEREMONIAL AND MORAL LEGISLATION

Leviticus 24:1-9 Pure oil of pressed olives was to be burned in the gold lampstand before the Lord continually. The people of Israel were to furnish the olive oil, and since the seven lamps burned continually, both day and night, this was no small item. This gave each Israelite, as well as the tribe of Levi, an interest in the service of the tabernacle. The olive oil was to be pure, free from leaves and all impurities. It was not to be pressed out, but beaten out, to produce the very finest grade. The best was to be used, for the oil speaks of the Holy Spirit.  The lamps were to be kept lit continually while the tabernacle was set up. (Obviously, when they marched in the wilderness, they did not hold up lighted lampstands) And we note that Aaron alone controlled the use and the service of the lampstand. “And Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning: when he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn incense upon it. And when Aaron lighteth the lamps at even, he shall burn incense upon it, a perpetual incense before the Lord throughout your generations” (Exod. 30:7-8). Continue Reading Here

Leviticus Bible Study – Lesson #11

THE FEASTS OF THE LORD

The Sabbath (Lev. 23:1-3)

The religious calendar of Israel now becomes the subject of God’s legislation. The Lord told the children of Israel through Moses to proclaim the feasts of the Lord as holy convocations.

After six days of labor, the seventh day, or Sabbath, was to be a day of rest from work. This was the only weekly holy day. The weekly Sabbath cannot properly be labeled one of the feast days. It is pre-Mosaic and goes back to the original creation. It was repeated to Israel, and in Deuteronomy an additional reason for its observance is given. “And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the Lord thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day” (Deut. 5:15). Leviticus Bible Study – Lesson #10

Lesson 10:  Lev. 20, Lev. 21 and Lev. 22

Punishment for Gross Offenses (Leviticus 20)

This chapter gives the punishments for some of the offenses listed in chapters 18 and 19.

God instituted capital punishment! He is just and righteous, and He applied the death penalty with unsparing severity.

Nowhere in the Word of God is punishment given for the purpose of reforming the criminal. That was not the objective. Punishment of a crime is for the moral good of the people. Punishment of a crime is a deterrent to crime. It will cut down the crime rate. One of the reasons for the spread of lawlessness like a dreadful plague throughout this land is due to the fact that we have weak judges who will not enforce the law. Continue Reading Here

Leviticus Bible Study – Lesson #9

Lesson 9:  Leviticus 19

Laws of Everyday Life

We are in that section of the book where the Ten Commandments are explained in terms of the social life of the nation. I can’t think of anything more practical than this particular section. God’s Law is designed to tell us this one thing: “… Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy” (Lev. 19:2). This was fundamental and basic to all facets of the life of Israel. It explained everything which God commanded or demanded. It entered into every part of their daily routine. Holiness in daily life with all of its relationships was paramount in the everyday living of God’s people. That is something that needs to be reemphasized today, by the way. This is not just theory. God intended it to be brought right into our everyday lives. Continue Reading Here

Leviticus Bible Study – Lesson #8

Lesson 8:  Leviticus 17-18

LAWS CONCERNING SACRIFICE (Leviticus 17)

This chapter had direct application to the wilderness march and the period that Israel was camped about the tabernacle. It has to do with ethical rather than ceremonial considerations. Clean domestic animals for food were to be slain at the tabernacle. Only verses Lev. 17:8-9 in this chapter have to do specifically with the ceremonial offering of a sacrifice to God.
