WARNING! Genesis Chapter 6, verses 1-7 is one of several “Twilight Zone” areas of the Bible. The concepts involved are so weird, far-reaching, and just plain ‘mind-boggling” that most people (including Bible teachers) just WON’T GO THERE. However, our goal as Bible students is to follow the evidence wherever it leads, and to allow God’s Word to speak to us, rather than us telling God’s Word what IT must mean. Buckle your seatbelts, folks; the roller-coaster is about to leave the station. To quote William Shakespeare, “Horatio: O day and night, but this is wondrous strange! Hamlet: And therefore as a stranger give it welcome. There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” Hamlet Act 1, scene 5
Before we begin with these verses, there are several important facts that you must remember:
- The Creation Mandate in chapter one for ALL SPECIES to reproduce ONLY after their own kind. No “cross-species” life forms allowed.
- The facts given in chapter 3 that Satan has a “SEED” (offspring, children), and that his seed will be in conflict with the seed of the woman.
- That Satan and the demons LIE.
1 When humankind began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of humankind were beautiful. Thus they took wives for themselves from any they chose. 3 So the LORD said, “My spirit will not remain in humankind indefinitely, since they are mortal. They will remain for 120 more years.”
4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days (and also after this) when the sons of God were having sexual relations with the daughters of humankind, who gave birth to their children. They were the mighty heroes of old, the famous men.
5 But the LORD saw that the wickedness of humankind had become great on the earth. Every inclination of the thoughts of their minds was only evil all the time. 6 The LORD regretted that he had made humankind on the earth, and he was highly offended. 7 So the LORD said, “I will wipe humankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth – everything from humankind to animals, including creatures that move on the ground and birds of the air, for I regret that I have made them.”

Word usages:
verse 1 – “humankind” – The Hebrew text has the article prefixed to the noun. Here the article indicates the generic use of the word אָדָם (’adam): “humankind.”
Verse 2 – “sons of God” – The Hebrew phrase translated “sons of God” (בְנֵי־הָאֱלֹהִים, bÿne-ha’elohim) occurs only here (Gen 6:2 thru Gen 6:4) and in Job 1:6; Job 2:1; Job 38:7. In the Book of Job the phrase clearly refers to angelic beings. In Gen 6 the “sons of God” are distinct from “humankind,” suggesting they were not human. This is consistent with the use of the phrase in Job. Since the passage speaks of these beings cohabiting with women, they must have taken physical form or possessed the bodies of men.
Verse 3 – Gods Spirit remaining with man for only 120 years more – The verb form יָדוֹן (yadon) only occurs here. Some derive it from the verbal root דִּין (din, “to judge”) and translate “strive” or “contend with” (so NIV), but in this case one expects the form to be יָדִין (yadin). The Old Greek has “remain with,” a rendering which may find support from an Arabic cognate (see C. Westermann, Genesis, 1:375). If one interprets the verb in this way, then it is possible to understand רוּחַ (ruakh) as a reference to the divine life-giving spirit or breath, rather than the Lord’s personal Spirit. E. A. Speiser argues that the term is cognate with an Akkadian word meaning “protect” or “shield.” In this case, the Lord’s Spirit will not always protect humankind, for the race will suddenly be destroyed. Heb “his days will be 120 years.” Some interpret this to mean that the age expectancy of people from this point on would be 120, but neither the subsequent narrative nor reality favors this. It is more likely that this refers to the time remaining between this announcement of judgment and the coming of the flood.
Verse 4 – Nephilim (giants) – the word used in the KJV and several other translations (giants) is somewhat misleading, since the word comes from the Greek Septuagint, where the word “gigantes” was used for the Hebrew “nephilim”. The Greek word DOES mean “giant” (as in stature), but is literally translated as “earth-born”, indicating that although they had angelic beings (fallen angels) as progenitors, they also had purely physical bodies as well.

So, what can we conclude from these 7 mysterious verses? That (fallen/sinful/demonic) angelic beings cohabitated with human women and produced hybrid offspring that were both “giants” in stature, and had “earth-born” physical bodies. As a result of this violation of God’s creation mandate, the human race AND the other genetic aspects of the earth (see verse 7) were so corrupted physically AND morally that God was “offended” (extremely strong word usage) and decided that the only way to correct the problem was to destroy both the human race and ALL of the corrupted animals as well as the Nephilim hybrids.
Human civilization in Noah’s day reached a state of total depravity never known before and never known since. The overwhelming majority of the human race have become like the future cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. God cannot find even ten righteous men to cause him to hold back the total, universal destruction of the human race. He found only eight in Noah’s family: Noah, his wife, three sons, and three daughters-in-law (Gen. 7:1-7).
The immediate effect upon God of the disgusting promiscuous and unnatural cohabitation described in verses 1–2 is as follows. First, God says, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever” or, “shall not remain in man forever,” the literal translation. In other words, the offense is so horrendous it is unforgivable. God will withdraw His Spirit from His former relationship to humanity. Commentators Keil and Delitzsch interpret God as saying, “My Spirit shall not rule in men forever; in their wandering they are flesh.”
Verse 3b gives the crucial rationale behind the statement of God’s “giving up” on the existing race of men, including the line of Seth (except Noah’s family). The verse says, “. . . because he also is flesh.” This is really an amazing statement. It anticipates the later New Testament usage of the word “flesh” (sarx in Greek) in a moral (or more literally) immoral sense.
Thus, in God’s use of “flesh” here we have a preview of the highly developed New Testament use of the term flesh. We now know from the New Testament’s teachings that if men fail to maintain the flesh crucified with Christ, they open the doors of their lives to sinful and demonic entrapment (1 Cor. 7:5; Eph. 4:27; 1 Tim. 3:6-7 1Tim. 4:1 1Tim. 5:14-15). This, on a worldwide scale, is what happened in Genesis 6. The result was the total demonic bondage of the race to evil spirits, and to the leadership of fallen hybrid beings. The final result was the judgment of the Flood (Gen. 9:6-13).
So why is all of this important to us, in the 21st Century? Isn’t this just ancient history?
NO! We need to be aware of the fact that Satan hasn’t given up his plans to corrupt the “seed” of the woman, and to make us prey for demonic forces through fallen hybrid beings! Refer to Daniel 2:36-45.
The problem breaks down into 2 parts in the modern era:
- The genetic angle – the ability to alter the DNA of species so that they can and will not be of their original “kind”. Once again, the violation of the creation mandate.
- The socio-political angle – How to get human beings to FOLLOW the demonic beings, and accept the hybrids. The battle against God’s Creation, and the LIE that we will accept.
What follows is an EXTREMELY brief summary of LITERALLY thousands of pages of material from sources that include government reports (both US and others), research and analysis by numerous scientists in a variety of specialties, and news reports from a number of sources (including major mainstream news media).

In the early decades of the 21st century, concentrated efforts can unify science based on the unity of nature, thereby advancing the combination of nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology, and new technologies based in cognitive science. With proper attention to ethical issues and societal needs, converging technologies could achieve a tremendous improvement in human abilities, societal outcomes, the nation’s productivity, and the quality of life. This is a broad, crosscutting, emerging and timely opportunity of interest to individuals, society and humanity in the long term.
The phrase “convergent technologies” refers to the synergistic combination of four major “NBIC” (nano-bio-info-cogno) provinces of science and technology, each of which is currently progressing at a rapid rate: (a) nanoscience and nanotechnology; (b) biotechnology and biomedicine, including genetic engineering; (c) information technology, including advanced computing and communications; (d) cognitive science, including cognitive neuroscience.
Examples of payoffs may include improving work efficiency and learning, enhancing individual sensory and cognitive capabilities, revolutionary changes in healthcare, improving both individual and group creativity, highly effective communication techniques including brain-to-brain interaction, perfecting human/machine interfaces including neuromorphic engineering, sustainable and “intelligent” environments including neuro-ergonomics, enhancing human capabilities for defense purposes, reaching sustainable development using NBIC tools, and ameliorating the physical and cognitive decline that is common to the aging mind.

The DARPA Augmented Cognition program promises to develop technologies capable of extending the information management capacity of warfighters. This knowledge empowerment will be accomplished in part by exploiting the growth of computer and communication science and accelerating the production of novel concepts in human-computer integration.
The mission of the Augmented Cognition program is develop and demonstrate quantifiable enhancements to human cognitive ability in diverse, stressful, operational environments. Specifically, this program will measure its success by its ability to enable a single individual to successfully accomplish the functions currently carried out by three or more individuals. The program will explore the interaction of cognitive, perceptual, neurological,
and digital domains to develop improved performance application concepts. Success will improve the way 21st century warriors interact with computer-based systems, advance systems design methodologies, and fundamentally reengineer military decision making.
Continuous Assisted Performance (CAP)
The goal of this program is to discover new pharmacologic and training approaches that will lead to an extension in the individual warfighter’s cognitive performance capability by at least 96 hours and potentially for more than 168 hours without sleep. The capability to resist the mental and physiological effects of sleep deprivation will fundamentally change current military concepts of “operational tempo” and contemporary orders of battle for the military services.
The program will develop a number of different pharmacologic approaches using animal models to prevent the effects of sleep deprivation over an extended period of time, nominally set at up to seven days. At the end of the program, we expect several candidate drugs that alone, or in combination, extend the performance envelope.

Scientists predict strong thirst for ‘human milk’

Genetically modified (GM) dairy products that are similar to human milk will appear on the Chinese market in two years, an expert in biotechnology has predicted. Li Ning, a scientist from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the State Key Laboratories for AgroBiotechnology at China Agricultural University, said progress in the field is well under way.
Li said Chinese scientists have successfully created a herd of more than 200 cows that is capable of producing milk that contains the characteristics of human milk.
He said the technology is at the cutting edge worldwide and will ensure “healthy protein contained in human milk is affordable for ordinary consumers”.

The first GM food crop containing human genes is set to be approved for commercial production. The laboratory-created rice produces some of the human proteins found in breast milk and saliva.
Its’ creators say that it could be used to treat children with diarrhea, a major killer in the Third World. The rice is a major step in so-called Frankenstein Foods, the first mingling of human-origin genes and those from plants. But the U.S. Department of Agriculture has already signaled it plans to allow commercial cultivation. The rice’s producers, California-based Ventria Bioscience, have been given preliminary approval to grow it on more than 3,000 acres in Kansas. The company plans to harvest the proteins and use them in drinks, desserts, yoghurts and muesli bars.

Genetic modification: glow-in-the-dark lifesavers or mutant freaks?

As Home Office statistics reveal a 10% rise in the use of genetically modified animals for research, scientists appear to be divided about their usefulness.
At first glance, the creation of a chicken that glows in the dark seems a disturbing and unnecessary one. With a jellyfish gene inserted into its DNA, a hen modified this way acquires the power to fluoresce in a bright green hue when illuminated with blue light – an unsettling ability, to say the least. After all, who needs poultry that can shine a light on itself? More important, why go to the trouble of mixing the DNA of two such dissimilar creatures in the first place?
It is an important question that has recently been reflected in headlines that followed the release of Home Office figures which show there was a dramatic rise in the creation of genetically modified animals in laboratories in 2009. In total, 1.5m experiments on GM animals were carried out, a rise of 143,000 from the previous year. At the same time, there was a corresponding decrease in experiments on “natural” animals.
In other words, more and more scientists are now relying on the use of GM animals, as opposed to unmodified ones, for their research. But what gives the insertion of a piece of DNA from one living being into another such an advantage for scientists? After all, inserting invertebrate genes into mammals, and vice versa, is not easy. It also makes the public uncomfortable and raises the hackles of animal rights organisations. Yet it has become the standard route for researchers. Why?

This report considers research that involves the introduction of human DNA sequence into animals, or the mixing of human and animal cells or tissues, to create entities we refer to as ‘animals containing human material’ (ACHM). Such approaches are long-established, and thousands of different ACHM have been used in biomedical research, yet they have received relatively little public discussion.

We describe many examples, including: mice genetically altered to acquire susceptibility to diseases which do not normally affect them such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis; chimæric mice, engrafted with pieces of human tumour, which have for several decades been an invaluable system in cancer research, and in which radiotherapy and anti-cancer drugs have been tested; monoclonal antibody anticancer therapies which have been developed using mice with their immune system ‘humanised’ by replacement of mouse by human genes; and goats which produce a human substance used to treat a blood clotting disorder. Across the spectrum of ACHM use, the modification of animals to make them more similar to humans, in specific biological or disease characteristics, may improve the utility of the research results and outcomes.

Many ACHM models, such as transgenic rodents each containing one (or a few) human genes, and animals with human tissue grafts, have a long history of research use without major ethical or regulatory difficulties. However, technologies are advancing rapidly; more extensive sections of DNA can be manipulated, and methods using human stem cells to replace parts of tissue, or even whole organs, are becoming increasingly refined. By enabling progressively more extensive, and precise, substitution of human material in animals, these approaches may soon enable us to modify animals to an extent that might challenge social, ethical, or regulatory boundaries. Based on the evidence we received, the published literature, our public dialogue, and our own discussions, we identified areas which might merit special consideration, including:
Extensive modification of the brain of an animal, by implantation of human-derived cells, which might result in altered cognitive capacity approaching human ‘consciousness’ or ‘sentience’ or ‘humanlike’ behavioural capabilities.
Situations where functional human gametes (eggs, sperm) might develop from precursor cell-types in an animal; and where fertilisation between either human (or human-derived) gametes and animal gametes might then occur.
Cellular or genetic modifications which could result in animals with aspects of humanlike appearance (skin type, limb or facial structure) or characteristics, such as speech.

Dear President Obama,
Since the mid-1950s, classified projects connected to extraterrestrial matters have operated outside of constitutionally required oversight and control by the President and Congress. This constitutes a grave and ongoing threat to US national security and global security and peace.
The implications of this subject are such that no aspect of life on Earth will be unaffected by its Disclosure. We are acutely aware that this subject is highly controversial and suffers from great social opprobrium within certain elite circles and within the mainstream media. Indeed, secrecy on the subject has, in part, been maintained by a carefully orchestrated psychological nexus of ridicule, fear, intimidation and disinformation that makes it difficult for any public figure to openly address the matter.
Moreover, the ‘bubble’ of security and access restrictions that surround the Office of the President makes it very difficult for POTUS to receive accurate information and advice on the subject. The consequences of this secrecy, combined with the psychological aspects mentioned above, have ensured that none of your predecessors have been able to effectively manage this problem. This has led to an unacknowledged crisis that will be the greatest of your Presidency.

It is time for a new Emancipation Declaration – one that frees all of humanity from the shackles of economic slavery that results from secret centralized power, corruption and global economic hegemony. The world will not find justice and peace so long as half of the world’s population lives in poverty while the other half cannibalizes the Earth to maintain its standard of living. This dire situation can and must be transformed into a world of abundance, clean and plentiful energy and genuine sustainability. On this foundation, with these new sciences, technologies and a new consciousness, we can move forward as a people, united and in peace. Then and only then will we be welcome amongst the other civilizations of the cosmos.
That we are not alone in the universe is now a scientific given. That we have been visited already by advanced civilizations – whose interests here are likely ancient – is controversial. However, in my discussions with European, Vatican, Canadian and other leaders around the world, a growing consensus exists that we have been visited and the time for disclosing this information is long past due. More importantly, an appropriate diplomatic initiative is needed to communicate with these extraterrestrial visitors within a framework of universal peace, free from the past dominance of militarism and paranoia.
Insofar as upwards of 80% of the American people think that ‘UFOs’ are real, and that some aspect of the government is lying to them about it, continued secrecy redounds only to the benefit of the precious few who profit from such secrecy. This secrecy undermines the credibility of the US and other governments, and allows the cancer of unchecked covert power – forewarned by President Eisenhower in his last address to the nation – to metastasize throughout the world. It now threatens the very life of Earth.

After very careful review of all data and documents and after interviewing hundreds of top secret witnesses, we have concluded that the actual extraterrestrial presence is distinctly non-hostile. In light of the reckless and aggressive nature of many of our covert military actions and the extraordinarily advanced technologies that permit interstellar travel by these extraterrestrial civilizations, if they were hostile, human civilization would have been dealt with decisively at the dawn of the nuclear era.
These visitors, however, appear to be very concerned with unchecked human hostility, war-making and weapons of mass destruction, combined with our early potential for space travel. The tendency for people to engage in anthropocentric projection leads many to assume a threat where none exists. It is more likely that humanity may be seen as a threat to the cosmic order, insofar as we have failed to restrain the expansion of weapons of mass destruction while attempting to push farther and farther into space. Moreover, we have failed to initiate an enlightened and peaceful diplomatic mission to these extraterrestrial visitors. This needs to change immediately.

Nevertheless, the status quo can no longer hold and fundamental change is urgently needed. To this end, we urge the President to undertake a number of initiatives as soon as possible. We recommend that the President:
_ Appoint a Special Presidential Task Force to investigate this matter, identify covert facilities and assets (see attached summary) and reassert Executive control over these projects;
_ Identify and immediately stand-down operations that are covertly targeting Extraterrestrial Vehicles, weaponizing space and engaging in rogue disinformation projects;
_ Develop response plans to minimize the risks related to potential false flag operations that intend to hoax a hostile ‘alien’ presence, including preparations with military, intelligence and international institutions;
_ Form The Council on Interplanetary Relations to coordinate a peaceful, forward looking and non-militarized response to the extraterrestrial presence. The Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence (see www.CSETI.org) has an 18 year ongoing project to establish such contact and can assist with this process. CSETI, working with other governments and world figures, will form such a Council if the US government decides not to do so within the next 12 months;
_ Immediately fund the study, development and careful release of those new energy technologies that can quickly replace fossil fuels and nuclear power. (See www.TheOrionProject.org). Note that these technologies, since they acquire energy from the zero point energy field of space/time, will allow for the retirement of the electric energy grid. We are in possession of documents and information regarding key facilities and assets connected to these technologies (see attached documents). We recommend that the propulsion and transportation aspects of these technologies (electro-magneto-gravitic systems) be released at a later time when the world security situation has improved;
_ Establish high-ranking liaisons with Congress, the UN and other governments to coordinate these projects and the release of the new energy technologies;
_ The National Security Council needs to form a section specifically addressing the international, interplanetary and macroeconomic implications of this disclosure and urgently prepare for the release of these technologies;
_ The Orion Project (http://www.TheOrionProject.org) has identified key scientists to assist with the development of these new energy technologies. They have agreed to work with us, but are being prevented from doing so, one by a compartmented operation (TS SCI) to which he is assigned. We request an action by the Office of the President to specifically permit them to work with us with the full support and protection of the President. We cannot overemphasize how important it is that these people be assigned to this critical task: In less than 1 year, we would have new energy generators developed to run America free from oil, gas, coal or nuclear power.
President Obama, we stand ready to assist you and your Administration with these and other tasks, and pledge to you our full support. I will personally fulfill any request from your office with the utmost integrity, discretion and confidentiality.

I agree that no more war, death, bloodshed would be great but that is not what the people pulling the strings want. They want quite the opposite. Their goal is a one world government that has the ability, power, and means to control everything on the planet and every aspect of human life for their own twisted goals. I know this all sounds crazy but it is 100% real as can be. Do the research for yourself and you will see.
And remember what Henry Kissinger said while speaking at the Bilderberg meeting in Evian, France, May 21, 1992:
“Today Americans would be outraged if U.N. troops entered Los Angeles to restore order; tomorrow they will be grateful. This is especially true if they were told there was an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will plead with world leaders to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well being granted to them by their world government.”
UFOs and Related Subjects: An Annotated Bibliography.
Recently the U.S. Government Printing Office issued a publication compiled by the Library of Congress for the Air Force Office of Scientific Research: UFOs and Related Subjects: An Annotated Bibliography. In preparing this work, the senior bibliographer, Miss Lynn E. Catoe, actually read thousands of UFO articles, books, and publications. In her preface to this 400-page book she states:
A large part of the available UFO literature is closely linked with mysticism and the metaphysical. It deals with subjects like mental telepathy, automatic writing, and invisible entities, as well as phenomena like poltergeist manifestations and possession. … Many of the UFO reports now being published in the popular press recount alleged incidents that are strikingly similar to demoniac possession and psychic phenomena which has long been known to theologians and parapsychologists.
pp. 44, 45.
Many flying saucers seem to be nothing more than a disguise for some hidden phenomenon. They are like Trojan horses descending into our forests and farmfields, promising salvation and offering us the splendor of some great supercivilization in the sky. p. 47.
The Cosmic Jokers.
Demonology is not just another crackpot-ology. … Thousands of books have been written on the subject, … The manifestations and occurrences described in this imposing literature are similar, if not entirely identical, to the UFO phenomenon itself. p. 215.
The Devil and his demons can, according to the literature, manifest themselves in almost any form and can physically imitate anything from angels to horrifying monsters with glowing eyes. Strange objects and entities materialize and dematerialize in these stories, just as the UFOs and their splendid occupants appear and disappear, walk through walls, and perform other supernatural feats. p. 216.
Operation Trojan Horse is merely the same old game in a new, updated guise. The Devil’s emissaries of yesteryear have been replaced by the mysterious “men in black.” The quasi-angels of Biblical times have become magnificent spacemen. The demons, devils, and false angels were recognized as liars and plunderers by early man. These same imposters now appear as long-haired Venusians. p. 216.

I believe there is a machinery of mass manipulation behind the UFO phenomenon. It aims at social and political goals by diverting attention from some human problems and by providing a potential release for tensions caused by others. The contactees are a part of that machinery. They are helping to create a new form of belief an expectation of actual contact among large parts of the public. In turn, this expectation makes millions of people hope for the imminent realization of that age-old dream: salvation from above, surrender to the greater power of some wise navigators of the cosmos.
Alien Abductions Stopped by the Name of Jesus
Nobel prize-winning biochemist, Francis Crick, calculated the probability of a living cell forming by accident from nonliving chemicals and found the likelihood to be less than 1 in 10 to the 40,000th power. (That’s a 10 with 40,000 zeroes after it!) To put that in perspective consider that the number of atoms in the known universe is only 10 to the 130th power!
What is the likelihood of finding the right atom out of all the atoms in the universe even if you picked out one atom every second for ten billion years? Life forming by chance is far less likely than that. Francis Crick didn’t fall on his knees and say “there must be a God!” Instead he said that aliens (extra-terrestrials) from outer space brought life to earth.
This brings us to the question of aliens, UFOs and alien abductions. In recent years many people have come forward and said they woke up one morning with the distinct memory of being abducted by aliens and taken aboard a spacecraft. This usually happens with people who are involved in the occult or are into “New Age” belief systems. “New Age” can be defined as a westernized form of Hinduism.
Some of the “abductees” who didn’t start out as New Agers to tend to adopt New Age beliefs because of the messages received from the aliens they encounter. It is the opinion of many researchers that UFO “abductions” are nothing more than demon inspired dreams and demonic encounters intended to deceive people into New Age beliefs.
Joe Jordan attended church as a child but adopted New Age beliefs through involvement with New Age literature. Joe repented and became a Christian after a Christian friend challenged him to read the Bible. He now works to expose the UFO hoax. Some time after his conversion Joe encountered the case of a man who claimed to have halted his abduction experience.
The abduction was stopped when the man called on the name of Jesus. Through further investigation Joe Jordan and a colleague discovered about 100 instances of UFO “abductions” stopped by the name of Jesus. (see “Charisma” magazine April 2001 issue p. 46) This is empirical evidence that the name of Jesus Christ is the name before which every knee must bow to the glory of God the Father!
When a Christian confronts a demon and speaks to the demon and commands it to stop in the name of Jesus, the demon will stop the abduction.
For a biblical example of the power of the name of Jesus we can read of the instance when Paul, the apostle, cast a demon out of a girl. “Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour (Acts 16:18).
If UFO abductions are mere illusions perpetrated by demons it is no wonder that they are halted by exercising spiritual authority through the name of Jesus.
“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow …” Philippians 2:10

Read Genesis 6:8-22
Translation Note for verse 9 – The word “perfect” here is translated in the Hebrew [Strong's ref. 8549 tamiym, taw - meem; entire, without blemish,complete, perfect,undefiled,whole]. It comes from an even earlier root, tamam, meaning be clean, consume, and make an end [Strong's ref. 8552]. Now, all these adjectives are descriptive of “sacrifices” and used in this context. Certain sacrifices or burnt offerings, had to be made with animals that were “unblemished” or perfect “specimens” (physically). These were considered “undefiled” and acceptable offerings unto the Lord.
Interestingly, in this verse God uses a word that is primarily used for PHYSICAL (genetic) perfection, rather than for MORAL perfection.
Noah and his family are (in a very real sense) alone in the world. Notice that God says “all flesh is corrupted”. Not only in the genetic sense, but in the moral and spiritual sense as well. EVERYONE else is living in demonic evil. Consider how lonely it must have been to not be able to have real fellowship with ANYONE outside you immediate family. See 2 Corinthians 6:14-18.
The Ark
God gave Noah specifications for how the Ark was to be built and its dimensions. 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, 45 feet high. With three decks, a door in the side and a “window” which was a continuous slot under the roof eaves, 18 inches high. The wood used was gopher and the Ark was to be sealed with pitch inside and out. Noah’s ark was probably the largest sea-going vessel built until the late 19th century. Until 1858, the largest vessel of her type in the world was the P & O liner Himalaya which was 240 feet by 35 feet.
Consider the carrying capacity of the Ark. With its three decks, the floor space equaled 95,000 square feet. Its interior volume was 1,296,000 cubic feet. That is equivalent to the capacity of 520 standard railroad stock cars.
The Bible states that the Ark of Noah was to be made of gopherwood. The Hebrew word is gopher (Strong’s #1613). This word only appears once in the entire Bible. What was gopherwood? The response of one Bible dictionary is typical. Gopher Wood: the wood from which Noah’s ark was made. The word gopher is unknown elsewhere in Hebrew or allied languages.
Almost all Bible translations use the word cypress, cedar, or gopherwood in describing the wood used in the construction of the Ark. Although cypress wood is often used in the place of gopherwood the two terms are not equivalent. The Hebrew word for cypress is Tirzah. If the translators of the Bible wanted to say cypress they would have used the word cypress just as they did in the book of Isaiah 44:14 (NKJV).
Another common word that is used in the place of gopherwood is the word cedar. Once again there is a Hebrew word for cedar (erez, #730) that could have been used by the translators. This word is used more than 67 times in the Old Testament where it is translated cedar tree, cedar timber, and cedar wood.
Obviously, the word gopherwood used in Genesis 6:14 cannot be interpreted or translated as cedar, cypress, or any other type of modern-day wood. Thus one can see that Biblical scholarship is silent on the meaning of this word.
Laminated or Layered Wood
Interestingly, older dictionaries will provide possible insight into the word gopher. The words wafer, gauffer, goffer, and gopher, all deal with related concepts. Definitions include: layers in a wafer, layers glued together, an adhesive to glue together layers of paper, and layers of lace in women’s clothing. The concept of layering and lamination is implied in all of these words. The term, goffering, comes from an old French word which is the process whereby irons are used to flute and press together various layers of lace.
The Bible reveals that Noah’s Ark was covered inside and outside by pitch. This would serve as a waterproofing agent. This pitch covering was probably natural bitumen that was commonly found in seepages in the Middle East. But what many people do not realize is that the ark’s design could also include laminated or layered wood that was glued together with a resinous tar-like coating. This manufactured glue was expressly produced for the lamination of wood and was well-known throughout the ancient world. This lamination would provide strength for the large beams required for the construction of the ark.
Was the ark big enough to hold the number of animals required?
The total available floor space on the Ark would have been over 100,000 square feet, which would be more floor space than in 20 standard-sized basketball courts. The total cubic volume would have been 1,518,000 cubic feet [462,686.4 cubic meters] –that would be equal to the capacity of 569 modern railroad stock cars.
Now comes the question, how many land dwelling air breathing animals would have had to be taken aboard the ark to survive the flood? According to Ernest Mayr, America’s leading taxonomist (deceased), there are over 1 million species of animals in the world. However, the vast majority of these are capable of surviving in water and would not need to be brought aboard the ark. Noah need make no provision for the 21,000 species of fish or the 1,700 tunicates (marine chordates like sea squirts) found throughout the seas of the world, or the 600 echinoderms including star fish and sea urchins, or the 107,000 mollusks such as mussels, clams and oysters, or the 10,000 coelenterates like corals and sea anemones, jelly fish and hydroids or the 5,000 species of sponges, or the 30,000 protozoans, the microscopic single-celled creatures.
In addition, some of the mammals are aquatic. For example, the whales, seals and porpoises. The amphibians need not all have been included, nor all the reptiles, such as sea turtles, and alligators. Moreover, a large number of the arthropods numbering 838,000 species, such as lobsters, shrimp, crabs and water fleas and barnacles are marine creatures.
Doctors Morris and Whitcomb in their classic book,The Genesis Flood state that no more than 35,000 individual animals needed to go on the ark. In his well documented book, Noah’s Ark: A Feasibility Study, John Woodmorappe suggests that far fewer animals would have been transported upon the ark. He credibly demonstrates that as few as 2,000 animals may have been required on the ark. To pad this number for error, he continues his study by showing that the ark could easily accommodate 16,000 animals.
But, let’s be generous and add on a reasonable number to include extinct animals. Then add on some more to satisfy even the most skeptical. Let’s assume 50,000 animals, far more animals than required, were on board the ark, and these need not have been the largest or even adult specimens.
Remember there are really only a few very large animals, such as the dinosaur or the elephant, and these could be represented by young ones. Assuming the average animal to be about the size of a sheep and using a railroad car for comparison, we note that the average double-deck stock car can accommodate 240 sheep. Thus, three trains hauling 69 cars each would have ample space to carry the 50,000 animals, filling only 37% of the ark. This would leave an additional 361 cars or enough to make 5 trains of 72 cars each to carry all of the food and baggage plus Noah’s family of eight people. The Ark had plenty of space.
How were the animals gathered?
Another enormous problem some have posed is the problem of gathering specimens of each kind of air-breathing land animal and bringing them aboard the Ark. However, the Genesis account indicates that God gathered the animals and brought them to Noah inside the Ark two by two. Some have suggested this may have involved the origin of animal migratory instincts or, at least, an intensification of it. We also know that most animals possess the ability to sense danger and to move to a place of safety.
How could Noah’s family take care of all those animals?
Once aboard, many have suggested that Noah’s problems really began, with only 8 people to feed and water, to provide fresh air and sanitation for the huge menagerie of animals for a total of 371 days. However, a number of scientists have suggested that the animals may have gone into a type of dormancy. It has been said that in nearly all groups of animals there is at least an indication of a latent ability to hibernate or aestivate. Perhaps these abilities were supernaturally intensified during this period. With their bodily functions reduced to a minimum, the burden of their care would have been greatly lightened.
